Online Therapy
What is online therapy?
Online therapy is a way of delivering therapy sessions using a video call on a computer, tablet or smartphone.
At Acorn Psychotherapy we use Zoom to deliver online sessions as it offers great privacy features and is reliable and secure.
What happens in online therapy?
Online therapy works in the same way as traditional face-to-face therapy, except that we meet with you via Zoom rather than in a therapy room. We will set up a Zoom meeting unique to you and send you a link to click when it is time for your session. Find out more about joining a Zoom meeting.

If you have any questions about the technology in your sessions, then we are there to support you to feel comfortable and connected.
Does online therapy work?
Yes!
We have seen the benefits for many clients in our work and research also shows it is an effective way to access therapy.

Some recent research:

What can I talk about in online therapy?
You are welcome to bring any issues or difficulties to online therapy, in the same way as you would to traditional face-to-face sessions.
Even though the sessions are delivered differently, the content doesn't need to be different when we work together online.
What are the benefits of online therapy?
No travelling, so less time out of your day for your sessions.

Talk in the comfort of your own home.

Fit your sessions around work, childcare or other commitments.

No restriction to working with a therapist who lives near you.

Continue your sessions if you travel.
How can I get the most out of online therapy?
Here are some tips:

Find a comfortable, quiet, private and distraction-free place to talk.

Practice using the technology before your first session.

Is online therapy is right for me?
To help you decide, it may be helpful to think about the following:

Do you have somewhere private to talk?

How comfortable are you with technology?

Do you feel happy using online communication tools like Zoom?

Would online therapy be more convenient for you than face-to-face appointments?
And if you're not sure, we both offer a free, no-obligation 20 minute session for you to get a feel for how online therapy might work for you. Just contact us to arrange an appointment.
Do you also offer telephone therapy sessions?
Kathryn offers both telephone and online therapy sessions. Penny offers online sessions only.
