  • What type of therapy do you offer?
All of the therapists at Acorn Psychotherapy are trained in Person Centred Therapy. This approach trusts you, the client, as the expert on yourself and what you need to live a happy and fulfilled life. During sessions, our role is to create an environment in which you feel safe to explore all aspects of yourself, as well as any difficulties which you might be experiencing. In order to achieve this, we will: listen to your situation with empathy and understanding be honest and open in how we experience you and your world accept and value you fully as a person You can find out more about the person-centred approach to therapy in this guide, which has been produced by the Person-Centred Association.
  • How do you deliver sessions?
Our therapists offer online (Zoom) therapy sessions. Kathryn also offers telephone sessions.
  • Which days do you work?
Kathryn works Monday to Thursday (including evenings) and Penny works Monday to Saturday (including evenings).
  • How long do sessions last?
Each session lasts 50 minutes (unless you have agreed otherwise with your therapist).
  • How often will we meet?
Most clients have weekly therapy sessions and have a fixed slot which is theirs for as long as they need it. However, we appreciate that this may not be possible for everyone, and we will try to be as flexible as possible.
  • How many sessions will I need?
At Acorn Psychotherapy, we believe that the best person to answer this question is you. We offer both long and short-term therapy to suit your individual needs, and you are not required to commit to a fixed number of sessions.
  • What will happen in the first session?
During the first session, your therapist will take some details from you and they will ask you some questions to help them to understand your situation more fully. This is to make sure that they are aware of any information which may be relevant to your sessions. Your therapist will also explain about the confidential nature of the sessions.
  • What happens if I need to cancel a session?
If you need to cancel or change a session, you should let your therapist know as soon as possible. If notice is received at least 24 hours before the day of the appointment then no charge will be incurred. Any cancelled, missed or changed sessions with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged at the usual session fee.
  • What if I have an emergency between sessions?
Acorn Psychotherapy is not a crisis service, and we are unable to respond to emergency situations between sessions.
